foreign language schools

Hi,
I’m a high school Junior and I’m planning to apply to Ivy League schools next year. I am going to finish my German class (I’ve taken the hardest course, the same one, two years in a row already), and I’m planning to drop German for next year. I’ve been wondering, will it affect my chances of getting into an Ivy League school/good university in the US if I don’t take a Foreign Language for four years?

I am interested in finding out how you do it. What was your experience? It seems to me you would need to be in a classroom if you’re learning the language.

foreign language translator

I want to major in a foreign language, possibly french or russian and eventually become a translator and work for the government or work for a company overseas… i’ve been looking at Middlebury, George Washington , American and McGill… which one is best? Any other colleges out there too?

foreign language translator

I’m interested in becoming a foreign language translator.
But I’m not sure what to major in, and I keep hearing to major in the foreign language you wish to study, but I have more than one.

Currently my strongest language know is Japanese, and Ive been into that forever but still want to have proper college professor to teach me and hopefully to study abroad one day. But I also want to learn french( the second language I know most),Mandarin Chinese, and Icelandic (one of the languages from one of the worlds highest economic powers..well it used to be until all this economic crap took place), and possibly Russian.

Thing is I don’t know what to major in. Sometimes I also hear to major in International business, medical, or law but I’m not really into those. I’m more into tour guide translator, travel agent, air port assistance kind of thing..is this possible?

And whats the difference between International Studies, International Relations, and International Affairs.Could someone give me a valid definition to each. And would majoring in one of those help me accomplish the translator thing for multiple languages.

If someone can help me I’m trying to plan out my future better, so I don’t go on taking more unnecessary classes like I was before and not developing to what I want to do.Its a waste of time and money, for I am a poor college student :P
So to list it out I need
1) What would be a recommended major for someone that wants to be a translator for multiple languages?
2)What would be a nice minor to complement my major?
3)Whats the difference between International studies, relations, and affairs, and would majoring in one of those help me accomplish the translator thing for multiple languages?
4) And also your personal opinion about what I’m doing, and how I’m going about this, do you think its a smart route?

Thanks ahead. :) Yes Alexander B, I think look online is a obvious solution.
But my situation is too specific and cant be found online. That’s why I’M ASKING!

Dictionary.com is obviously not going to solve my problem either HUGGY BEAR!

Isnt linguistics more of the science of language like how they are formed? And it seems like I wouldn’t have a choice of what language to study in linguistics..and even if I minor in a language where would that leave the others ones I wanted to study?

Does 3 or 4 years of foreign language mean years you’ve taken the foreign language in your through out your entire education or just high school?

Because I the last Spanish class I’ve taken is Spanish 3 honors 10th grade, so is that qualified for 3 years of foreign language? or do is that considered 2 years?

Also is there a college application cut off if you don’t have the required amount of years of foreign language?

I need to get a online or distance bachelor’s or associates degree in a foreign language.I live in United States so I will prefer a domestic degree to get financial aid.I will apreciate international schools as long as I could get the materials here.Open U and Uof London won’t sent materials to the U.S. Any ideas???

What if I am a foreigner who is a bilingual. I mean, I’ve already learnt English as my second language, and I know more of English that my native language. No kidding! Is it necessarily for me to take a foreign language class in high school? I’m going to be a junior this fall, and I’ve heard that I need two foreign language credits in order for me to go to a university. I’m not too late right?
