foreign language schools

Does 3 or 4 years of foreign language mean years you’ve taken the foreign language in your through out your entire education or just high school?

Because I the last Spanish class I’ve taken is Spanish 3 honors 10th grade, so is that qualified for 3 years of foreign language? or do is that considered 2 years?

Also is there a college application cut off if you don’t have the required amount of years of foreign language?

No, taking Spanish 3 in 10th grade does not count as three years of a language. Three years of a language means you’ve taken a language course every semester for three years, no matter what the level was.

colleges don’t require that you took a foreign language in high school. and yes it means the years you’ve taken in high school, not your whole life. no, taking spanish 3 doesn’t count you have to have 3 YEARS, just like it sayss.

3 years of foreign language in highscholl means just that 3 years of foriegn language in high school …..

some colleges require foreign language to graduate ….. but some will let you test out if you have had it in high school and are profficient …. take a test if you pass you can skip the college require ment … some colleges require that you have had so many years of foriegn language to be admitted …..
when I was in high schooI I had 4 yrs of Latin 4 of Greek and 3 of French … and in college I had two more yrs of French as a requirement ….

Actually it all depends on how your high school credits it. Typically when a college says three or four years it can mean three or four full credits.

For instance, at my high school, we got one full credit in a class after one semester instead of after one year. So I took three semesters of Latin but because I got three full credits it counted.

If you don’t have what the college is asking for as far as language requirements you can an admissions person at the college and speak to them.

FYI - For college, only credits earned during high school count unless in your school district there are middle school classes that count towards high school credit or something like that.

Your best bet is to talk to your high school counselor or an admissions person at the college you’re applying too.

    Good luck!
